The Term “Buck”
by Snets ~ July 7th, 2008. Filed under: Blog.Watching CNBC this morning, the term buck comes from colonial times when a poker marker was a buckskin later shortened to buck. This transferred to currency and now means a dollar (buck). All I know is that neither one of these will buy 1/4 of a gallon of gas.
We may not technically be in a recession, but ask the guy on the street if we are. After paying for fuel for the “Family Truckster”, buying milk and produce at Publix - ask them if they still have extra money for the family vacation anymore. I was in Home Depot yesterday (ok I admit it - not my favorite place) and I was amazed at the traffic. As in “very little” traffic. It really appears that we are all hunkering down. It conjures up Dickens, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” The rest of the quote of which that is a part would also apply nicely to our nations’ current travails. Well this too shall pass. It’s going to take a little time but the Sunshine State will be fine over time. I certainly cannot imagine living anywhere else. Of the things I am most grateful - living here is right at the top of the list.
